I like a good book/movie/TV series, and this is the FIFTH book of The Italian Saga. (Bonus: You don’t have to read the previous books to enjoy this, but you might want to reread the sentences here and there that provide helpful background info.) I also like stories about the coming of age, and this book is another glimpse into how tricky it can be to not lose yourself before your find your authentic self. Finally, I like detailed, nuanced characters. Leda is no shadowy firgure, she’s real. And Lexi... Who doesn’t want a best friend like Lexi?!
Great sequel in series of books. Highly recommend it.
My spouse and I give 5 stars to each book in the series. We never excepted to be so enchanted by Leda and her story. Looking forward to Book Six.
First I should say I was given this book for my review and I had not read the first 4 books leading up to this one.I began thinking I was just going to hate Leda. It started out, in the beginning, explaining why the small g is used instead of the capital G in God. Being religious myself I thought....oh great...another book like far too many. Then I hated how she was with Claudio. BUT, I ended up LOVING this book. I didn't want it to end. Days later and another novel already read in the meantime, I still can't stop thinking about this one. And though I never read the first 4 I didn't feel I needed to in order to follow the story. I fell terribly in love with both Leda and Sergio. Who knew. They could have been very annoying with the running away from each other...in turn. However, they were just like so many in real life just like them at that age. Oh boy I remember well! And while I'm a homeschool mother who wouldn't allow my teen daughter to read this, I sure enjoyed it. It was steamy without making me feel uncomfortable (some are just way too adult and go too far)...at all! I was thinking the addition to the lesbian character was going to bug me as well. That's super popular lately. And always feel like it's added just to push an agenda. But it was very well done and I didn't feel I heard the author's agenda in it all like I do with so many books I review lately. Overall this was just a great story and I can't wait to read the next one. Enjoy!
At nineteen, Leda has just graduated from high school. She is recovering from an eating disorder and a failed relationship and is ready to begin a new chapter in her life, studying Genetic Engineering at a nearby college. We follow Leda through three years of college, during which time she is on a mission to find herself and discover what makes her happy.I love the set of rules Leda comes up with throughout the course of the book and the fact that they’re also gathered together at the end of the book for easy reference. There are a few awkwardly phrased sentences but, overall, there is some beautiful writing. The language is rich and full of scientific metaphors and similes. The book acts as a soundtrack of the times and is full of fun references to 1990s pop culture. It also brings back all those feelings of discovering first love. My one complaint is that some of the names are too similar: Leda, Lexi, Elena. While it’s not technically necessary to read the earlier books in the series (I read the first two), knowledge of Leda’s life in her primary and high school years would greatly enhance the reading experience.I received this book in return for an honest review.
I have been waiting to write a review for this excellently written novel. If I was still teaching both high school and college it would be my go to book for many young girls. I could notput it down and neither could my mother and college aged daughter so it captures the imaginations of a wide range of age groups for sure.It is so easy to root for Leda throughout the storyline because the author makes her so likable.Even though this is the final book in a series you do not have to read the previous books to enjoy it. I did not biit Ican hardly wait for the next one to come to print. I have luckily discovered a literary world I enjoy visiting.I will continue to recommend this fine novel and very talented author.
I was sent this book from the author. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review. This is a really hard review for me to write, as I did not love this but I also did not hate it. But, it just was not for me. I do not like leaving a full rating when reviewing a book when I do not finish it as I do not find it fair to rate it that way. However; Amazon does not allow you to not put a star rating. Unfortunately, I just could not get into the writing style. After a few pages in, I had no clue what was going on or what they were talking about. I ended up DNFing this as I just could not find myself getting lost into the story. So, I cannot say what I would give this overall.
A continuation. If you have not read the other series you may be confused. It took me awhile to figure out what was happening and who everyone was. I enjoyed the writing but just didn't enjoy the story because the characters seemed already developed and I felt like I was missing something.
